Clean Air Power :: Dual-FuelTM technologies
Combining diesel and naturalgas
for clear cost efficiency

Emission Reduction Technology

Clean Air Power, a leader in emissions reduction technology for more than 30 years, provides a full line of emissions reduction solutions to address widespread health and environmental issues.

Clean Air Power provides three emission reduction technologies for controlling major pollutants from stationary diesel and natural gas engines:

  • Oxidation catalytic converters of hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions
  • 3-way catalytic converters for reducing Nox emissions, Co and NMHC emissions
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions (SCR)

Emission Reduction Process
Clean Air Power's emission reduction system uses a catalyst-coated ceramic substrate which exhaust gas flows over, integrated into the exhaust system. On the surface of the substrate, the gas interacts with the catalyst, oxidising CO and un-burnt gas-phase and liquid phase HC. NOx is reduced over a catalyst in the presence of ammonia, whereby oxygen is stripped from the NOx resulting in the emission of harmless nitrogen and water. A secondary oxidation catalyst is fitted after the NOx catalyst to remove any excess ammonia that has passed through the system, as follows:

Oxidation Catalyst
Oxidation catalysts provide a quick solution to lowering emissions. Conversion of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and aldehydes into H2O and CO2 are the result of an oxidation catalyst at work. Products of incomplete combustion - HC and CO - are oxidised in the exhaust system by a catalyst into CO2 and H2O.

Three-Way Catalyst
Products of incomplete combustion - HC and CO – and NOx, are converted in the exhaust system by a three-way catalyst into CO2, H2O and N2.

SCR
SCRs (Selective Catalytic Reduction) work by treating exhaust gas after it leaves the engine. It employs ammonia or urea injection with a catalyst formulated specifically for reduction of NOx. An oxidation catalyst is typically incorporated to reduce other pollutants produced from the combustion of fossil fuels, such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (UHCs), volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).

The design flexibility of the DeNOx Silencer contributes to optimization of the exhaust system design for lower installed cost. A patented design combining the catalytic converter and exhaust silencer into a single unit results in an innovative, compact system that reduces footprint, pressure drop, piping, and other associated costs.

Catalytic silencer products have the added benefit of reducing noise to comply with OSHA and other standards. They are offered in industrial, residential, hospital grade or custom silencing levels.
