There are a variety of industry choices to prevent the formation of specific pollutants as a result of an engine’s exhaust process, but it is far more effective in the first instance to reduce the creation of pollution, than to use up valuable resources cleaning up pollution after the event.
3-way catalyst converters reduce NOx, CO and NMHC by up to 90% as a standard and emission reduction can go as high as 99% by adding extra catalyst elements.
Fitting oxidation catalysts will reduce emissions of NMHC between 80 – 90%, whilst reduction of CO and VOC emissions can be up to 90%. Particulate Matter (PM), odor and smoke are also reduced as a secondary process.
SRC systems (Selective Catalytic Reduction) can potentially reduce the NOx emissions between 80 and 99% and also further reduce the PM (Particulate Matter), even without a catalyst. |
